Never perform bark collars set-up procedures while the collar is on the dog.
Any electronic bark collars worn for extended periods of time can cause a condition similar to bedsores, known as Pressure Necrosis. To reduce the possibility, owners must do the following:
Supervise the dog during the first 2 days of training.
Check the fit to prevent excessive pressure; owners should be able to insert one finger between the collar strap and the dog's skin.
Never leave the collar on the dog for more than 12 consecutive hours.
Examine the dog's neck daily for any signs of a rash or a sore.
Wash the dog's neck area and the probes of the collar weekly with a wash cloth and mild hand soap; rinse thoroughly.
If the condition persists beyond 24 hours, see the veterinarian.
Always use the rubber insulators between the collar strap and probes to provide insulation in damp conditions.
Other dog bark collars and metal tags should be removed when using a bark collar, as they may interfere with proper operation.
The computerized circuitry should be serviced only by an authorized expert. Do not attempt to dismantle or repair any components of the bark collars system; doing so will void the warranty in full.
For the safety of the dog, a long lead should be used during initial training so owners have control of the situation. Dogs have unique temperaments and there is no way of knowing how the dog will react to the introduction of electronic bark collars.
Do not rely solely on this product to train the dog. If the dog shows signs of growling, snarling, or biting while using the collar, stop immediately. Especially if you have any reason to believe the dog could hurt itself or others. Aggression has many causes. We recommend that owners consult a knowledgeable professional dog trainer or animal behaviorist who has experience with aggressive dogs if the dog has shown any of these characteristics.
Occasionally, a dog cannot be trained to respond to bark collars. Sometimes even a properly trained dog may disobey a command.
